Apprenticeships
What are Apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are nationally designed work-based training programmes for 16-18 year olds and adults who have left full-time education. The complete Apprenticeship framework consists of three different qualifications:
- A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) This credits the learner for their practical skills in the workplace
- Key Skills / Functional Skills Certificates Key skills / Functional skills are essential for all jobs and industries and focus on communication/English, application of number/math and information technology.
- Technical Certificate The technical certificates provides the knowledge and understanding the learner needs to underpin their practical skills
An Apprentice will be employed full time and typically spend one day a week at college and 4 days a week in the workplace although this can vary depending on the Apprenticeship.
